After a night on the town sporting your sexy or elegant, wool Pea Coat the first thing you want to do is hang it on a padded or sturdy, shaped hanger.  One thing nice about wool aside from the fact that it keeps you warm and cozy is that wrinkles will disappear just by hanging your coat overnight.  Wool is an extremely flexible fiber and quickly pulls back into shape.  Simply allow it to air out and give it a light brushing to remove any surface soil and allow the fabric to relax.  Use a lint roller or brush often to remove surface dirt, hair and lint.  Start at the top and brush downward.

To avoid premature fiber wear clean your wool Pea Coat infrequently.  If you get a stain your garment spot clean it with cool water.  Wool naturally repels moisture so it’s fairly easy to clean stains if you get to them quickly.  When it’s time to clean the garment be sure to read the cleaning instruction label to avoid any expensive mistakes.  Most fine wool Pea coats will require dry cleaning; however, some can be hand or even machine washed.

If you plan to store your wool Pea Coat for any extended period of time make sure that it is clean and completely dry.  Any moisture, body oils or food particles will be an added attraction to moth larvae.  Also store you coat in a sealed container or garment bag with fresh cedar and a good moth repellent.

Always empty the pockets before hanging your coat.  Even light weight such as large metal buttons can distort the fabric so it’s a good idea to leave it buttoned up while hanging.  Use a large shaped hanger that gives the shoulders plenty of support and never use wire hangers.  If you use a plastic hanger make sure that it is sturdy enough so that the weight of the coat can’t distort it.  Proper care will keep your wool Pea Coat looking great for years to come.
